Adoption can be a positive choice for women.  We've begun building an ongoing list of non-profit, woman-centered adoption agencies and resources for birthfamilies.  See our new adoption resource page for information on choosing adoption and finding an agency that works for you, or to submit a resource to be added to our list.

ND's "Egg-as-Person" Bill

1/19/09

H. 1572 is introduced in the N.D. House and referred to Human Services.  The measure would redefine human life as beginning at conception, and the termination of any "human life" (including the blocking of a fertilized egg from implanting) as an abortion.  Not only would this dangerous bill effectively ban all abortions in the staet, it would also effectively redefine common methods of birth control (including hormonal contraception, the IUD, and emergency contraception) as abortifacients because these methods can block a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus. Choice activists speculate H. 1572 could be used to ban these methods as well.

Fact: There is only one operational abortion provider in the state of North Dakota.

HB 1445

H. 1445, however, has passed Senate and heads to Governor Hoeven.  This bill would mandate that women seeking an abortion are given state-prepared information 24 hours prior to receiving an abortion, including an amendment that an abortion will "terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being."

Choice advocates in the North Dakota area should refer to the Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota Action Fund.
